Water Department Laborer Position

The Village of Coxsackie is seeking applicants for a full-time position with benefits and state retirement in the Water Dept. as a laborer. The job description and application is posted on the Village’s website, www.villageofcoxsackie.com, Facebook or can be picked up at the clerk’s office at Village Hall at 119 Mansion St., Coxsackie, NY. Applications will be accepted until 4pm on September 29th, 2017.

Responsibilities:

Monitors waste systems for safe and efficient operation as trained and directed. Keeps records as trained and directed. Assists with general maintenance of the waste facility as directed. Installs, repairs and reads meters, valves and related machinery. Completes water turn-on/turn-off orders. Maintains equipment, grounds, buildings and reservoirs as directed. Respond to emergencies as needed with system breakdowns and after-hours emergencies. Assist and work as directed with the Village DPW and Wastewater Dept.'s.

Educational requirements:

GED or equivalent. Must have, or be able to obtain within 2 years of employment, a Water Treatment Plant Operator certification from the State of New York.

Desired Skills:

Ability to Maintain logs and prepare reports, work in potentially hazardous environments, effectively handle lifting of various objects up to 100 lbs., work outdoors in varying weather conditions, follow written and verbal instructions,  communicate effectively, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies and the public.

Qualifications:

18 years of age or older. Must maintain drivers license acceptable to the Village's insurance company. Reliable transportation to work site. This position is nonexempt from overtime. Normal work schedule is Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-3 p.m. with regular weekend hours and on-call schedule. Reports to: Water Superintendent.
